Ylang Ylang lives up to her high reputation with an impressive Group victory

Ylang Ylang lived up to her high reputation with an impressive victory in the Gr.3 Jockey Club Of Turkey Silver Flash Stakes at Leopardstown for the owners partnership of Magnier, Tabor, Smith, Brant, Westerberg.

Bred by Newsells Park Stud and Merry Fox Stud, the two-year-old filly by Frankel was sold by Newsells to MV Magnier and White Birch Farm at the Tattersalls October Book 1 Sale for 1,500,000gns.

Ylang Ylang was following up her debut win at the Curragh in June, making all once again to land this 7f race. Untroubled through halfway, she kept on powerfully in the closing stages to win comfortably.

Trainer Aidan O’Brien said: “We’re delighted. She had a good draw so obviously Ryan used it again. The next day we will take our time with her.  He said she was probably doing plenty for him in front and he gave her a beautiful ride. Ryan was very happy with her, and he said she ran straight through to the line.

Hopefully now it’ll be the Gr.2 Debutante before the Gr.1 Moyglare.  She’s very genuine, she tries very hard and wears her heart on her sleeve.  Natural is a good way to describe her.”

Ylang Ylang is the first foal out of the Shamardal mare Shambolic, a three-time Stakes performer and half-sister to dual Gr.1 Queen Elizabeth II Cup winning multiple Hong Kong Champion Comic Strip (aka Viva Pataca) and Laughing, winner of the Gr.1 Flower Bowl Invitational and Gr.1 Diana Stakes.

Shambolic also has a yearling colt by Kingman.  She was purchased by Hadden Bloodstock on behalf of Newsells Park Stud and Merry Fox Stud from Tattersalls December Sale in 2019 for 800,000gns.
