The Stud

One of Europe’s foremost commercial stud farms.

Environment

Since the early 2000s, Newsells Park Stud has grown to its present size of 1,200 acres and has been restored and maintained as a thriving habitat for the horses in our care.  70,000 trees have been planted to help provide natural shelter, while the soil’s high calcium content and the climate encourages a variety of herbage to thrive in our post and rail paddocks.

The old adage of ‘range and change’ is as valid today as it was when coined by our predecessors, and our 1000 acres of pasture ensure that every horse always has ample, quality grazing 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year.

Facilities

State of the art, light and airy barns have been built.  Each barn is surrounded by its own paddocks and is situated next to the barn manager’s house to ensure someone is always nearby.

Our foaling unit consists of 28 roomy boxes, half of which are equipped with CCTV and rubber floors & walls for additional safety.  From January through until the very last mare has foaled, at least one member of staff is present in the foaling unit 24/7 to ensure that absolutely nothing is missed.

Yearling prep is a core part of our business and as such our facilities are second to none, with three lunge rings, two large and airy horse walkers (including a 20x30m oval walker), and ample individual paddocks to allow daily turnout for every yearling.  Yearlings are still hand walked in the traditional way and the horses groomed every afternoon.

Stallion Unit

The stallion unit on the ‘West’ side of the Stud was completed in 2008.  This world class facility caters for all the needs of our stallions and ‘walking-in’ mares, as we seek to offer the best service and facilities for our clients.

We use one of the most advanced veterinary clinics anywhere in the world in Rossdale & Partners, while our farrier, Dermot Barry, is renowned throughout the racing and breeding industry.

Our Bloodstock

Our broodmares are the very heart of Newsells Park Stud. As such we have sought to invest in the best, with selection based on successful racecourse performance, proven producers and exceptional pedigrees.

For these mares we seek the most suitable sires around the globe, including Newsells Park Stud’s own resident stallions Nathaniel, A’Ali and Without Parole.

Our youngstock are reared as naturally as possible, capitalising on the benefits of our environment and complemented by our team’s wealth of experience.  The broodmare band has already enjoyed considerable success, with several foundation mares now establishing notable families.
