“Anthony Stroud bought A’Ali for Shaikh Duaji Al Khalifa and we are keen to support the stallion. We thought this is the best one here today. He’s a strong horse, very athletic. I thought he had a great attitude, a great outlook and he looks a horse who will run.”

‘A’Ali was a top-class sprinter and certainly one of the fastest two-year-olds I have ridden. He travelled very well in his races and had push button acceleration which made my life easy. I was lucky enough to ride both Mehmas and Ardad, and A’Ali must have a top chance of replicating their success at stud.”
Frankie Dettori, jockey
“A’Ali was a good looking, powerful and precocious sprinter who won three Group two races at two including the Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot. He trained on at three to win two more Group races over five furlongs. He always showed a lot of speed which combined with his great turn of foot and his wonderful temperament provide him with all the attributes to become a successful stallion.”

A’Ali Pedigree Notes – December 2021
A’Ali proved to be an outstanding two-year-old of his generation which saw him rated 111 by Timeform to be the top-rated juvenile over 5 furlongs in 2019. His Royal Ascot Norfolk Stakes (Gr 2) win was followed up by victories in both the Prix Robert Papin (Gr 2) and the Flying Childers Stakes (Gr 2). Staying at the minimum distance, A’Ali won two further group races including the Sapphire Stakes (Gr 2) the following season. A’Ali possesses all the qualities for him to continue the legacy of his potent sire-line, renowned for speed and precocity.
A’Ali’s, sire, Society Rock, winner of the Golden Jubilee Stakes (Gr 1), was also Champion having been the leading European first season sire of 2017. Although Society Rock sired only three crops he still managed to sire 13 stakes horses including a Gr 1 winner. A’Ali’s grandsire is the brilliant Rock Of Gibraltar winner of seven consecutive Gr 1s and now the sire of over 165 stakes winners, while his sire, Danehill, achieved an imperialist 14% stakes winners to foals of racing age.
The Danehill sire-line has been one of the most versatile and A’Ali appears no different. A strong starting point could be mares from the Mr Prospectorline, largely a source of speed. Society Rock’s Gr 2 winner The Mackem Bullet was out of a Trade Fair daughter while a Zafeen daughter produced Society Rock’s Listed winner Band Practice. Other Gone West line mares, such as Iffraaj, Hot Streak, Zafonic, all look strong options. Although A’Ali’s dam-sire, Motivator, is out of a Gone West daughter, there is plenty of scope for linebreeding back to Gone West, a pattern that has produced approximately 40 stakes winners. Iffraaj line mares will also create linebreeding to Nureyev. Machiavellian line mares have also been a strong source of success for the Rock Of Gibraltar line via daughters of Dutch Art, Machiavellian and Medicean. Dubawi daughters have produced seven stakes winners to Danehill line sires, so daughters of Make Believe, Makfi and Night Of Thunder will also suit. Other Mr Prospector branches such as Distant View, Kingmambo and Woodman are also proven on a Danehill cross.
Another Raise A Native branch that is proven with the Danehill sire-line is Sharpen Up. Selkirk, the sire of Cityscape, is the dam-sire to Rock Of Gibraltar’s Gr 1 winner Mount Nelson, while Rock Of Gibraltar also has a Gr 3 winner to a Kris daughter. Bering line mares have also produced stakes successes for Rock of Gibraltar; the Gr 1 winner Prince of Gibraltar is out of a Pennekamp daughter.
Society Rock has a strong record with mares carrying Nureyev. Society Rock has sired two stakes winners to Nureyev line mares which includes his Gr 1 winner Unfortunately, who is out of a Komaite daughter. With this, mares via the Fasliyev, Peintre Celebre and Pivotal strains look well positioned for success.
Staying with the Northern Dancer line, Storm Cat line mares have crossed with Rock Of Gibraltar to produce two Gr 1 winners amongst others. Mares via Ginat’s Causeway, including Belardo, Casamento, Lope de Vega and Shamardal, all look to suit. A Hennessy daughter has produced stakes winner for Rock Of Gibraltar, so in time, Scat Daddy lines mares could offer an appealing cross.
A’Ali is out of a Motivator daughter so Sadler’s Wells will sit in the fifth generation of his offspring. With linebreeding to Sadler’s Wells becoming an increasing proven pattern there is plenty of scope to breed back to Sadler’s Wells line sires. Rock of Gibraltar is proven with mares by Barathea, Galileo and High Chaparral. With this, mares by these sires or by their sons look well suited. El Prado and Singspiel line mares are also proven with the Danehill sire-line.
The Danehill/Green Desert cross is proving to be a successful precocious cross that has yielded over 75 stakes winners. Mares by Byron, Cape Cross, Desert Prince and Invincible Spirit are all proven with Rock of Gibraltar. Oasis Dream daughters have also had strong successes with the Danehill sire-line. Other Danzig branches should also be considered. Grand Lodge is the dam-sire of Society Rock’s Listed winning sprinter Corinthia Knight, while Polish President is the dam-sire to a Mount Nelson Gr 2 winner.
The speedy Try My Best sire-line is an increasing is influence in Europe. The Danehill/Royal Applause cross has produced 13 stakes winners. These are out of daughters of Acclamation, Dark Angel, Equiano, Harbour Watch and Royal Applause. Rock Of Gibraltar also sired his Gr 2 winning juvenile Raydara, to a Marju daughter. Any mares via the Night Shift line could also be considered, particularly as Rock Of Gibraltar has sired two Gr 3 winners on the cross. With this, mares by Azamour could suit well. Any Nijinsky mares could also work well; these could be via Hernando and Lomitas who are both proven with Rock Of Gibraltar. The British Champions Sprint (Gr 1) winner Librisa Breeze (Mount Nelson) is out of a Linamix daughter.
The Danehill sire-line also has a strong record with Roberto mares. Arch daughters have been particularly strong with Danehill line sires. Kris S blood, via Dr Fong and Lucky Story, are also proven with the Danehill sire-line.
There have been over 50 stakes winners bred on a Danehill/Ahonoora cross. Rock Of Gibraltar has sired three Gr 3 winners to Indian Ridge daughters, while Mount Nelson sired his Gr 2 winner Berkshire to a Dr Devious daughter. Namid daughters are also proven with Rock Of Gibraltar.
Mares from the Nasrullah sire-line has also produced much success for the Danehill sire-line. Via the Never Bend branch, daughters of Brief Truce, Darshaan, Daylami and Sakhee are all proven with Rock Of Gibraltar. Others sires from the Never Bend sire-line include Dalakhani and Sir Percy. Mares from the Blushing Groom line also create a proven cross, Rock Of Gibraltar’s Gr 1 winner Samitar is out of a Rainbow Quest daughter. With this, daughters of Le Havre could be worth trying. Daughters of Highest Honor and Verglas, from the Grey Sovereign branch, have both produced stakes winners by Rock Of Gibraltar.
Diktat, the sire of Dream Ahead, is the dam-sire of a number of speedy group winners from the Danehill line sires. The Danehill sire-line is also proven with Cadeaux Genereux line mares. This is best achieved via daughters of the Champion two-year-old colt Bahamian Bounty. Monsun daughters have also produced group winners for Rock Of Gibraltar, while daughters of Manduro and Shirocco have both produced stakes winners to other Danehill line sires.
