Waldgeist on target for the Arc with another impressive Group victory

17/09/2018

Once again Waldgeist proved himself a top-class colt with an impressive win in the Gr.2 Qatar Prix Foy at Longchamp on Sunday 16th September for owners Gestut Ammerland and Newsells Park Stud.

Trained by Andre Fabre, this race was the ideal trial for the four-year-old colt’s main target, the Gr.1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe in October.

Jockey Pierre-Charles Boudot said: “It was good the race was run at a nice even gallop and Waldgeist certainly picked up well when I asked him to gradually accelerate.”

Part owner Dietrich Von Boetticher said: “He’s a big, leggy individual and has taken time to reach maturity.  HIs trainer knows how to regulate his excercise regime and he has progressed well throughout the year.  He was very impressive today and he will, of course, come back here for the Arc in three weeks’ time.”

It was Waldgeist’s fourth consecutive victory and first run since landing the Gr.1 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud in July, following up other Group victories this season in the Gr.2 Grand Prix de Chantilly and Gr.3 Prix d’Hedouville.  A winner of the Gr.1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud at two, he also gained several Stakes performances at three including second in the Gr.1 QIPCO Prix du Jockey Club at Chantilly.

Waldgeist was bred by Newsells Park in partnership with Gestut Ammerland and Coolmore under the Waldlerche Partnership.  By Galileo, his dam Waldlerche is a Group 3-winning daughter of Monsun whose half-siblings include St Leger winner Masked Marvel and the Listed winner Waldnah.

Waldlerche is also the dam of Gr.2 Prix de Malleret winner Waldlied, and her 2018 foal is a full-sister to Waldgeist. Newsells Park Stud will be consigning her Kingman yearling colt at Tattersalls October Yearling Sales Book 1 (Lot 185).
