The fastest son of Frankel. Winner of the prestigious Gr.1 St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot.
For the seventh consecutive year Newsells Park Stud was the leading consignor at Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 1 with a record turnover of 17,185,000gns and average price of 660,962gns for 26 lots sold.
The highlight of the consignment was the 4,400,000gns sale of the Frankel filly out of Aljazzi, the highest priced yearling to be sold in the Northern Hemisphere this year (pictured). Aljazzi is a daughter of Shamardal who won the Group 2 Duke of Cambridge Stakes in 2019. She was bred and raced by Saleh Al Homaizi and Imad Al Sagar, and was added to the Newsells Park broodmare band in 2018 at the not inconsiderable cost of 1,000,000gns.
Her yearling was knocked down to Amo racing’s Kia Joorabchian, stood alongside agent Alex Elliott, after he saw off a determined effort from Japanese trainer Mitsu Nakauchida.
Elliott said: “This filly has got through most of the hoops – she is by the right stallion, she is out of a good Shamardal mare, she is from a great farm, she has come to a sale, she has shown she is in the top echelon of horses, now she has got to keep going! It is great that she is staying here, it is great for British racing that these people are around to buy these horses.”
Julian Dollar, Newsells Park Stud general manager, said: “To be honest with you, I was hoping she would make a million and that would have been nice, but obviously some good players had her valued at twice that. We are obviously delighted. Mitsu Nakauchida is a great trainer and a lovely guy and he loved her, and obviously Kia, Amo and Alex loved her too… it is unbelievable.”
Another special highlight of the sale for the stud was Godolphin buying the Siyouni half-sister to Ylang Ylang outbidding Coolmore at 3,700,000gns.
Agent Anthony Stroud said: “She’s an exceptional filly to look at and a half-sister to a Group 1 winner. She looked like she had a wonderful temperament, she moved well. She’s by a wonderful stallion, out of a mare who’s produced a Group 1 winner, from a very good farm. She ticked all the boxes.”
The daughter of the Shamardal mare Shambolic was bred in partnership between Newsells Park Stud and Merry Fox Stud (Craig Bennett), and was the third highest price for a filly in the history of Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 1.
“It is tremendous. Graham’s team has done a brilliant job,” said Craig Bennett. “The dam just keeps on giving, and we are very lucky to have her. We are delighted with that result, it is onward and upward.”
Newsells Park Stud’s owner Graham Smith-Bernal added: “It is hard to believe where this market is at, it is very strong. We knew she was very special, reflected by the fact that we had so many vettings and scopes, and the way she has conducted herself here. She is a beautiful, beautiful filly and we wish the new owners all the very best.”
Two more yearlings consigned by Newsells Park Stud to nearly make a million were the St Mark’s Basilica half-brother to Group three winer Ottery out of Group two winner Longina who was knocked down for 950,000gns to Blandford Bloodstock acting on behalf of Saeed Suhail. Plus the Dubawi half-sister to US Stakes winner Equitize from the great ‘W’ family being out of Waldlied who realised 925,000gns when selling to Richard Knight for Salhia Stud.
Julian Dollar summarised the sale: “It has been an amazing sale and I wish I had more horses to sell! I will be the first to congratulate Tattersalls on the job they have done bringing international buyers to this sale this year. It is the premier European sale, and Tattersalls has done a marvellous job bringing people in. We will enjoy it, I am not sure I can really believe it, but we will enjoy it.”
