Newsells Park Stud was delighted to win the Flat Breeder of the Year (TBA Silver Rose Bowl) at the annual TBA Flat Breeder’s Awards Evening this week.
The Award was presented following a notable year on the racecourse in 2019 culminating in the victory of Waldgeist in the Gr.1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe at ParisLongchamp.
Waldgeist was bred by Newsells Park in partnership with Gestut Ammerland under the Waldlerche Partnership. By Galileo, his dam Waldlerche is a Group 3-winning daughter of Monsun whose half-siblings include St Leger winner Masked Marvel and the Listed winner Waldnah. She has also produced the Gr.2 winning Waldlied and Stakes placed Waldkonig.
Earlier in the year, the Newsells bred Japan won two consecutive Gr.1 races, the Gr.1 Juddmonte International Stakes at York and Gr.1 Juddmonte Grand Prix de Paris, a race won by his full-brother Mogul this year.
Japan is by Galileo out of the Stakes winning mare Shastye (Danehill) from the family of Sagamix and Sagacity. He was sold by the stud at the Tattersalls October Book 1 Sale for 1,300,000gns to MV Magnier who also purchased his full-brothers and Group winners Mogul and Sir Isaac Newton for 3,400,000gns and 3,600,000gns respectively as yearlings. In addition, Japan is a full-brother to multiple Group winner and performer Secret Gesture.
