Newsells Park Stud graduates flying with three Group winners this weekend

15/09/2019

It was an excellent weekend for Newsells Park Stud with three Group winners bred by the stud.

First of the trio was Mogul landing the Gr.2 KPMG Champions Juvenile Stakes at Leopardstown on Saturday 14th September.  It was an impressive performance  from this exciting two-year-old who looks to be a high-class colt in the making for Michael Tabor, Derrick Smith and Mrs John Magnier.

Trainer Aidan O’Brien said: “He was trapped a little bit wide today and there was a nice pace on so he learned plenty. Ryan had to move early on him and when he got to the front he had a good look. I’d say he would have learned plenty and we’ve been very happy with his progress from race to race so hopefully he’ll progress on again. He would have a choice of two races now, probably the Dewhurst or the Vertem Futurity.”

Mogul is a Galileo full-brother to dual Gr.1 winner Japan out of the fantastic Newsells mare Shastye. He was consigned by Newsells Park Stud at Tattersalls October Book 1 as a yearling and was purchased by MV Magnier for 3,400,000gns.

Today the triple Gr.1 winner Waldgeist added to his impressive Group winning form by readily taking the Gr.2 Qatar Prix Foy at Longchamp, a race he also won last year for owner/breeders Gestut Ammerland and Newsells Park Stud.

Waldgeist was bred by Newsells Park in partnership with Gestut Ammerland and Coolmore under the Waldlerche Partnership.  By Galileo, his dam Waldlerche is a Group 3-winning daughter of Monsun whose half-siblings include St Leger winner Masked Marvel and the Listed winner Waldnah.

The third Group winner of the weekend bred by Newsells Park Stud was Ispolini in the Gr.3 135th Deutsches St Leger at Dortmund for Godolphin and trainer Charlie Appleby.

It was the second Group win for this Dubawi half-brother to the Stakes performer Playful Sound (Street Cry) out of the Gr.2 New York Stakes winner Giants Play (Giant’s Causeway), a daughter of Gr.1 Fillies’ Mile winner and Gr.1 Irish Oaks second Playful Act (Sadler’s Wells).

Ispolini was also sold by Newsells Park Stud at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 1 where he was knocked down to Godolphin for 1,200,000 gns.

The stud has bred or raised 11 individual Gr.1 winners since 2010, and 69 Group/Stakes winners of 18 Gr.1 races, 16 Gr.2 races, 28 Gr.3 races and 58 Listed races.  Don’t miss our 2019 yearling consignments.
