New Nathaniel Group winner Poptronic targets Yorkshire Oaks

Nathaniel celebrated a new Group winner yesterday with Poptronic landing the Gr.3 Jenningsbet Hoppings Fillies’ Stakes at Newcastle in style against the Classic generation and older fillies and mares.

The three-year-old filly was completing a hat trick of victories from just four starts for trainer Karl Burke and owner/breeders David and Yvonne Blunt. In doing so she beat the Lingfield Oaks Trial winner Rogue Millennium, and is on target to take up her entry in the Gr.1 Yorkshire Oaks.

“We talked about the Yorkshire Oaks at the Ebor meeting, so I would imagine that will be her target if she was good enough,” trainer Karl Burke said. “She obviously proved herself good enough today to have a go at it. They went pretty steady early, but we didn’t really want to make it with her. She is a bit keen, but Sam said she looks a bit keener than she actually is. He said she wasn’t too bad, but swings her head around a little bit. It was a great performance and she is obviously a filly on the up.”

Poptronic is the first foal out of Alpine Dream (Dream Ahead), a daughter of Gr.2 Lowther Stakes heroine Infamous Angel.

She is yet another exciting 2022 three-year-old for her sire Nathaniel, with Desert Crown recently winning the Classic Gr.1 Epsom Derby earlier this month. Both look very exciting horses to follow through the rest of the season.
