14/07/2022

Nathaniel celebrated a new Gr.2 winner tonight with Quickthorn making all to land an impressive victory in the Gr.2 Prix Maurice de Nieuil at ParisLongchamp.

Quickthorn was following up his Gr.3 success in the Coral Henry II Stakes at Sandown Park in May, having finished second by just a head in the Gr.3 Longines Sagaro Stakes at Ascot and also he was second in the Listed Barry Hills Further Flight Stakes at Nottingham on his seasonal debut in April. He has now won six races and nearly £290,000 in prize money for his connections.

Trained by Hughie Morrison for owner and breeder Lady Blyth, he was once again given a great ride by Tom Marquand.

Trainer Hughie Morrison said: “Tom said he never really got out of fourth gear. I think the world’s his oyster now, there are plenty of Group 1s in the autumn. He’s in the Ebor, but I’d be tempted to go up in grade now. He’s in the Irish St Leger and I’d love to bring him back for the Group 1 Prix du Cadran.”

The five-year-old is out of Daffydowndilly (Oasis Dream), a daughter of Stakes winner Art Eyes and from the family of the Derby and Breeders’ Cup Turf winner and leading sire High Chaparral.
