New Gr.2 winner for Nathaniel with the 3yo Englishman

Nathaniel was represented by a new Gr.2 winner today when Englishman produced an impressive display to land the Derby Trial Gr.2 Sparkasse KölnBonn – 191st Union-Rennen at Cologne for trainer Marcel Weiss.

Having won on his racecourse debut, the three-year-old Englishman was making only the second start of his career and travelled strongly before quickening decisively in the long Cologne straight. Under jockey Enzo Crublet, he powered clear to score with authority.

A homebred for Gestüt Ittlingen and owner-breeder Manfred Ostermann, Englishman continues a great run of form for the stud and Nathaniel in Germany. He follows another Nathaniel son Alleno, another Gr.2 winner trained by Weiss and owned/bred by Gestüt Ittlingen, who recently captured the Grosser Preis von Tattersalls at Baden-Baden after successfully defending the Gr.2 Gerling-Preis earlier in the season.

From this year’s Classic generation, Englishman is out of the Stakes-winning Kendargent mare Eleni, herself a half-sister to Group performer We Go, and from the immediate family of the US Gr.1 Beverly D Stakes heroine Gorella, the Gr.2 Goldene Peitsche winner Royal Intervention and the Listed winner and multiple Stakes-placed Porto Santo.
