Nathaniel’s son Quickthorn lands fourth Stakes race

17/06/2023

Nathaniel’s son Quickthorn was back to his best with an impressive win in the Listed Sky Bet Race To The Ebor Grand Cup Stakes at York today.

Last season he demolished the opposition when making all to win the Gr.2 Weatherbys Hamilton Lonsdale Cup Stakes also at York by 14l. It was his second consecutive Gr.2 victory having landed the Gr.2 Prix Maurice de Nieuil at ParisLongchamp earlier that year, a race he may target again in July.

Trained by Hughie Morrison for owner and breeder Lady Blyth, he was given a great ride by Jason Hart.

Trainer Hughie Morrison said: “Jason gave Quickthorn a lovely ride. He gave him every chance, let the horse do what he wanted to do and obviously saved enough for the end where he probably just outstayed the other one. He’s tough. He may go to France next month then the likelihood is he’ll come back for the Lonsdale Cup here.”

Quickthorn has now won four Stakes races and over £500,000 in prize money for his connections. The six-year-old is out of Daffydowndilly (Oasis Dream), a daughter of Stakes winner Art Eyes and from the family of the Derby and Breeders’ Cup Turf winner and leading sire High Chaparral.

Quickthorn is another consistent high-class Group winner for his sire Nathaniel, in addition to Gr.1 2022 Epsom Derby Classic winner Desert Crown and 11-time Gr.1 winner Enable, and 24 Gr.1/Gr.2 winners or performers on the Flat.
