Nathaniel’s son Alleno readily won the Gr.2 Sauren Dachfonds Preis (ex Gerling-Preis) over 1m4f at Cologne today for the second year running, trained by Marcel Weiß.
The five-year-old was soon prominent in the field and led two furlongs out to go clear in the final furlong and win by nearly five lengths, beating other Gr.2 winners Wintertraum, Zuckerhut and last year’s Gr.1 Deutsches Derby winner Hochkonig. Last year, Alleno also comfortably won this race by two and a half lengths on his four-year-old debut.
A consistent Stakes performer throughout his career, as a three-year-old Alleno also finished second in the Gr.2 Sparkasse Kolnbonn – 189th Union-Rennen and Gr.3 WETTSTAR.de – Bavarian Classic before coming fourth in the Gr.1 Deutsches Derby at Hamburg.
Alleno is bred by owner/breeder Gestut Hof Ittlingen and is a half-brother to sire and Gr.2 Oleander-Rennen winner Alessio out of the Adlerflug mare Alanda, a half-sister to Gr.1 Prix du Cadran winner Altano and Gr.1-placed Araldo.
Nathaniel is the sire of 34 Gr.1/Gr.2 winners and performers, including nine Gr.1 winners.
