Nathaniel presented with the Whitbread Silver Salver at TBA Awards

05/08/2021

Nathaniel was awarded the Whitbread Silver Salver at the TBA NH Breeders’ Awards last night, as the leading active British-based stallion by earnings achieved in Britain and Ireland.

Sire of the brilliant Enable and recent Gr.1 Nassau Stakes winner Lady Bowthorpe the son of Galileo is equally capable of siring quality horses that whilst bred for the flat have also gone on to flourish over obstacles.

Julian Dollar, general manager of Newsells Park Stud, said: “This TBA Award illustrates how versatile, tough and durable Nathaniel’s progeny are on the racecourse. As the sire of 19 Gr.1 or Gr.2 winners or performers and 41 Group or Stakes horses in total on the flat, it is also an outstanding quality that his progeny can go on to excel over hurdles and jumps with an additional 8 Stakes horses to date under the NH code.”

Nathaniel’s notable progeny over jumps include Concertista, a Cheltenham Festival winner in 2020, this season she won a Gr.2 and Gr.3, with victory in the Gr.1 David Nicholson Mares’ Hurdle at Cheltenham just lost in the final strides.  Also Navajo Pass won the Gr.2 Champion Hurdle Trial at Haydock Park, while Zanahiyr was a Gr.2-winning juvenile hurdler.  It was not all about hurdles, with Kitty’s Light showing precocious talent over fences and was mightily unlucky not to end the season a Gr.3 winner, having suffered interference in the bet365 Gold Cup he was placed second.

Nathaniel’s progeny continue to excel on the flat and as a sire he remains a significant and successful sire with results that continue to outshine that of many of his more expensive peers.

He is currently ranked 5th for active European sires of 3yo+ middle-distance horses on the flat in order of Group winners (2018 to 2021), and with the first of his progeny conceived since the emergence of the great Enable now two years old exciting times lie ahead for this well bred sire standing at Newsells Park Stud.
