Mogul caps a glorious Group winning week for Newsells Park Stud

30/07/2020

The glorious week for Newsells Park Stud continued with Mogul returning to Group winning form today.  Bred and sold by the stud the three-year-old colt won the Gr.3 John Pearce Racing Gordon Stakes over a mile and a half at the Qatar Goodwood Festival for owners Michael Tabor, Derrick Smith and Mrs John Magnier.

Earlier in the week Newsells Park Stud’s stallion Nathaniel enjoyed a tremendous weekend at Ascot with his superstar daughter Enable becoming the first horse ever to win the Gr.1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth QIPCO Stakes three times, and he sired a new Group winner in Lady Bowthorpe.

Trainer Aidan O’Brien commented on Mogul’s victory: “We always thought Mogul was going to take two runs. He’s a big, strong, powerful horse who carries a lot of muscle and weight. We were hoping to get that into him before the Derby but that was only his second run.

“We were delighted with him today. We still think there is more to come from him. We’re thinking of going to the Grand Prix de Paris with him next maybe, that was the plan if everything went well today”

Last season, Mogul won the Gr.2 KPMG Champions Juvenile Stakes at Leopardstown, and looks an exciting horse to follow for the rest of this season.

Mogul is a Galileo full-brother to dual Gr.1 winner Japan out of the fantastic Newsells Park Stud mare Shastye, also the dam of the Gr.2 Middleton Stakes winner and multiple Gr.1/Classic placeded Secret Gesture, Gr.3 International Stakes winner Sir Isaac Newton and Australian Stakes winner Maurus.  Mogul was consigned by Newsells Park Stud at Tattersalls October Book 1 as a yearling selling to MV Magnier for 3,400,000gns.
