Great new Stakes winner for Nathaniel

Nathaniel enjoyed a new Stakes winner today with the tough and consistent Nate The Great landing the Listed Jockey Club Rose Bowl Stakes at Newmarket for trainer Andrew Balding.

It was a well deserved success having been placed in six previous Group/Stakes races including second to another son of Nathaniel, Quickthorn, in the Gr.3 Coral Henry II Stakes; and third in the Gr.3 Bahrain Trophy Stakes. He has now amassed over £180,000 for his owner/breeders Mildmay Racing & D H Caslon.

Trainer Andrew Balding said: “That was terrific. He has been a real star. He has had a busy season and a long season. It is a real testament to his tenacity and heart that he is still in top form and we are nearly in October. Training horses like this is not easy once they get up to the mark he is on. I’m thrilled for the horse. I was always fairly confident as he really digs in and he has a brilliant heart.”

Jockey William Buick said: “He enjoyed the nice ground and that’s probably one of his best displays. He’s a trier and loves a fight.”

The six-year-old is out of the Dubawi mare Theladyinquestion, a half-sister to Gr.2 winning two-year-old and Gr.1 placed three-year-old James Garfield, from the family of Rafha.

Nathaniel is now the sire of 58 Stakes horses including the winners of the Gr.1 Epsom Derby and Gr.1 Epsom Oaks with Desert Crown and Enable, a 11-time Gr.1 winner and Champion filly.
