07/10/2022

It was another exceptional week for Newsells Park Stud at the Tattersalls October Yearling Book 1 Sale, finishing as the leading consignor by aggregate, with 23 yearlings selling for 10,895,000gns, and realising an average price of 473,696gns.

A huge thank you to all the buyers, underbidders, and our clients, for your support. We wish you all the best of success on the racecourse!

Yearlings to make over one million guineas included a Frankel filly out of the Stakes performing filly Shambolic, a Shamardal half-sister to Gr.1 winner Comic Strip/Viva Pataca, who was purchased by MV Magnier & White Birch Farm for 1,500,000gns (Lot 201 – pictured).

MV Magnier said: “Frankel is obviously doing extremely well. In fairness to Newsells, they’ve always been very good breeders over the years, and many congratulations to Graham Smith-Bernal and Craig Bennett (joint owner of Shambolic) for producing such a filly. When you breed a good filly like that, you deserve to be rewarded. She has a lot of quality.”

In addition, the Frankel own-brother to Gr.1 St James’s Palace Stakes winner and Newsells’ sire, Without Parole, realised 1,300,000gns selling to Godolphin (Lot 303).

Bred by John and Tanya Gunther the yearling is also a half-brother to Gr.1 Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile winner and sire Tamarkuz.

An emotional John Gunther said: “To me he was just a fantastic looking yearling and he had presence about him – he was sort of special. I raced the first two Frankel’s out of the mare and I wouldn’t have minded racing this chap to, I loved him so much, but it was nice to see Sheikh Mohammed buy him and I’m sure they’ll do a fantastic job with him.

“Without Parole has some lovely foals. We sent some nice mares to him and we’re excited about his offspring coming up. We still have that to look forward to.”

On the third day of the Tattersalls October Book 1 Sale Godolphin also went to 750,000gns to purchase the next highest priced lot of the consignment, another filly by Frankel out of the Stakes winning Pivotal mare Evita Peron (Lot 471).

It was the fifth year in a row, and seventh time in the past nine years that Newsells Park Stud has been leading vendor at Book 1.
