The fastest son of Frankel. Winner of the prestigious Gr.1 St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Equiano’s son Dakota Gold added more Stakes success to his form in landing the Gr.3 Bengough Stakes at York this weekend for trainer Michael Dods.
He made all to take the race from another of Equiano’s sons, the 3-time Gr.1 winner The Tin Man, who finished second.
It was Dakota Gold’s fifth win on the Knavesmire out of eight starts and his fourth Stakes victory. An incredibly tough, consistent and classy sprinter he has also been placed in a further three Stakes races. In total he has won 11 races and over £330,000 for owners Doug Graham, Ian Davison and Alan Drysdale.
Bred by Redgate Bloodstock and Peter Bottowley Bloodstock, Dakota Gold is out of Joyeaux (Mark Of Esteem), a half-sister to Gr.1 winner Aoife Alainn.
Newsells Park sire, Equiano is the sire of 29 Group/Stakes winners or performers, and is a leading sire of sprinters (5f-7f, 3yo+) by black-type races won, number of races won and prize money. Other high-class winners by Equiano include Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint Queen and record breaker Belvoir Bay.
