Another Group winner for Equiano with Belvoir Bay in USA

30/04/2018

Equiano’s daughter Belvoir Bay won her second consecutive Stakes race and sixth Stakes race in total, when landing the 6.5f Grade 3 San Simeon Stakes at Santa Anita on Sunday 29th April.

This exceptionally tough filly convincingly won the $100,345 race by two lengths beating colts and geldings, for trainer Peter Miller and owners Team Valor International & Gary Barber

Trainer Peter Miller said: “She’s one of my all-time favourites.  She is not very big, not very wide, but she’s got a heart the size of the San Gabriel Mountains.”

Belvior Bay is now likely to target the Grade 2 Jaipur on 9th June at Belmont Park.

Last month she won the Mizdirection Stakes at Santa Anita, her first outing since surviving the fires at the San Luis Rey Downs training facility in San Diego in December 2017.  She has also won the Gr.3 Senator Ken Maddy Stakes at the Breeders Cup, as well as the Gr.3 Torrey Pines Stakes and the Listed Unzip Me Stakes and Blue Norther Stakes.

Bred in Britain, Belvoir Bay is another top-class mare from the breeding legacy of the late Mrs Peacock.  She is out of Path of Peace (Rock of Gibraltar), a half-sister to Gr.2 winner Please Sing (Royal Applause), and is a great example of how her sire Equiano is working over both Danehill and Green Desert mares.  As a yearling she was purchased by Peter & Ross Doyle Bloodstock at the Tattersalls October Sales in 2014.

Newsells Park Stud’s other resident stallion Nathaniel also enjoyed Stakes success at the weekend with Solvang finishing second in the Pr. Botticelli UAE Embassy in Rome.
