Nathaniel enjoyed another notable success today as his son Come What May powered to an impressive six-length victory in the Listed Trigo Stakes over 1m2f at Leopardstown for the Coolmore team.
Trained by Aidan O’Brien and ridden by Wayne Lordan, the three-year-old colt made a striking impression on just his second career start, following a three-and-a-half-length debut success at the Curragh last month.
“It was quite impressive and he went to the line really well,” Lordan told RacingTV. “He’ll probably benefit from going up in trip. He’s a lovely horse with plenty of quality and we’ve liked him since he was a two-year-old, but we’ve just given him every chance as we thought he’d show his best at three.”
Come What May is a full-brother to Nathaniel’s Epsom Derby-winning son Desert Crown, who announced himself as a Classic contender with an impressive victory in the Gr.2 Dante Stakes before claiming the 2022 Derby at Epsom.
Come What May and Desert Crown are also half-brothers to Gr.3 Premier Cup winner Archie McKellar (known in Hong Kong as Flying Thunder). They are out of the mare Desert Berry (Green Desert) with Come What May sold in utero when knocked down to M V Magnier of Coolmore at the Tattersalls December Sales in 2022 for 1,900,000gns.
Nathaniel continues to establish himself among Europe’s leading middle-distance sires, as well as a commercial sire with his yearlings averaging over £85,000 at the recent sales.
