Yearlings shine at Tattersalls

14/10/2021

It was another incredible few weeks for Newsells Park Stud at Tattersalls October Yearling Sales, in particular the Book 1 Sale finishing as the leading consignor by aggregate, with 22 yearlings selling for 10,785,000gns, and average price.

A huge thank you to all the buyers, underbidders, and our clients, for your support. We wish you all the best of success on the racecourse!

Newsells consigned the two top lots on the last day of Book 1 including the sale topper of the whole sale, a Sea The Stars filly out of the Gr.2 Queen Mary and Gr.2 Lowther Stakes winner Best Terms who sold for 1.5m guineas to Godolphin.

Best Terms has boarded at Newsells Park Stud since 2017 for our client Robert Barnett, who was understandably delighted, saying: “We’ve always loved her. The family has been so good, it goes right the way back to the Athasi family and then Time Charter. We were tempted to keep the filly but temptation ran out a bit earlier. She’s the most athletic yearling we’ve had for some time, and she has a lovely outlook, she’s very laidback.”

Another yearling to make over 1m guineas was the half-sister to four-time and Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner Waldgeist and Group winners Waldlied and Waldkonig. The Dubawi filly sold for 1.25m guineas to Al Shira’aa Farms.

It was the fourth year in a row, and six in the past nine years that Newsells Park Stud has been leading vendor at Book 1.

Julian Dollar, general manager at Newsells Park Stud said: “It has been a great day’s trade for us. Robert Barnett was absolutely thrilled and he is a great owner/breeder who has developed that family really well. He entrusted us with his mares a few years ago so I am thrilled for him with that result.”

Regarding the Dubawi half-sister to Waldgeist, Julian added; “I am thrilled she made over a million. She deserved that, a beautiful Dubawi half-sister to an Arc winner with that page. I’m delighted she is going to Al Shira’aa Farms as Kieran Lalor was a colleague of mine in America. He is now running Meadow Court Stud and I think he’s bought some very smart fillies with lovely pedigrees. He’s thinking racing and he’s thinking of the future and it’s great to see.”
