The fastest son of Frankel. Winner of the prestigious Gr.1 St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Waldkonig showed his exciting potential today in winning the bet365 Gordon Richards Stakes at Sandown for John and Thady Gosden. Bred and owned by Newsells Park Stud in partnership with Gestut Ammerland he is a Kingman half-brother to Gr.1 Arc de Triomphe winner Waldgeist whom the partnership also bred/owned.
A 9l winner on his two-year-old debut and also Stakes placed at three, he suffered from tooth and sinus issues last year so it was a well deserved success and he looks to have a promising four-year-old career ahead.
Trainer John Gosden said: “He benefited from that and strengthened and he’s a versatile horse – a mile and a quarter, a mile and a half on good, good to soft. We could think about Royal Ascot but maybe with the Brigadier Gerard back here in between.”
Waldkonig’s dam Waldlerche is a Group 3-winning daughter of Monsun whose half-siblings include St Leger winner Masked Marvel and the Listed winner Waldnah. In addition to Waldkonig, she has produced the 4-time Gr.1 winner Waldgeist (Galileo), Gr.2 winning Waldlied (New Approach), plus her full-sister to Waldgeist the three-year-old filly Wildfeder won on her second start earlier in April.
