New Gr.2 winner for Nathaniel

02/05/2021

Nathaniel sired another Gr.2 winner today with Lady Bowthorpe showing an excellent turn of foot to land the Gr.2 Betfair Dahlia Stakes at Newmarket at the Guineas Meeting for owner Emma Banks.

Trainer William Jarvis said: “This last week, she has really come to hand and I was desperate to run her today. We were concerned about the ground, but it was safe so we let her take her chance. She is a very special filly and I think as the year goes on she will hopefully continue to improve. She has an entry in the the Duke of Cambridge at Royal Ascot and we may consider the Lockinge at Newbury.’

Jockey Kieran Shoemark said: “She’s very talented. She’s bigger and stronger and I really hope she has a Group 1 in her this year.”

The five-year-old filly was winning first time out this season having won the Gr.3 Valiant Stakes over a mile at Ascot last July, and will certainly be one to follow this year.

Bred by Scuderia Archi Romani, Lady Bowthorpe is a half-sister to the Gr.2 Greenlands Stakes winner and Gr.1-placed Speak In Colours (Excelebration) out of the multiple winning sprinter Maglietta Fina (Verglas) a half-sister to the three-time Gr.2 winning miler Tullius. She realised 82,000gns as a yearling at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 2.

Also this weekend another daughter of Nathaniel, Mutamakina, finished second in the Gr.2 Sheepshead Bay Stakes at Belmont Park.
