Equilateral caps a great week for Newsells Park Stud

A fantastic week for Newsells Park Stud was capped yesterday with victory in the Listed Dubai Dash H at Meydan by Equilateral, a son of Equiano.

He cruised to victory in this 5f sprint and was the first winner at the Dubai International Racing Carnival for trainer Charlie Hills.

Jockey James Doyle said: “He couldn’t have felt better and we were pretty excited tonight.  He was fresh and well in the race.  We were going a good gallop and he was eager to get on with it. It was just a case of hanging onto him as long as I could. He’s won very well.”

Equilateral is now a five-time winner and was following up another Stakes win when landing the Listed Scarborough Stakes at Doncaster last year.

Trainer Charlie Hills said: “There’s a Group 2 (Meydan Sprint) in a few weeks’ time, and if we can win that, then we’ll definitely try him at the Group 1 Al Quoz Sprint.”

Newsells Park sire, Equiano is the sire of 27 Group/Stakes winners or performers, and a leading sire of sprinters (5f-7f, 3yo+) by black-type races won, number of races won and prize money in 2019. Other high-class winners by Equiano include triple Gr.1 winner The Tin Man and Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint Queen and record breaker Belvoir Bay.

Earlier in the week, Newsells Park Stud had further reason to celebrate with the stud’s homebred Waldgeist ranked joint No.1 overall in the Longines World’s Best Racehorse Rankings, and Japan was ranked No.2 in the top three-year-old rankings.  Plus the legendary Nathaniel filly Enable also shared the top ranking spot.
