Nathaniel’s superstar filly Enable wins her eighth Gr.1 race

06/07/2019 Enable

Nathaniel's superstar filly, Enable, won an incredible eighth Gr.1 race in landing the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown Park today.

In doing so, she was the first filly to win the race since 1992 and was emulating her sire who won the Coral-Eclipse in 2012 also on his seasonal debut.

Trained by John Gosden for owner/breeder Prince Khalid Abdullah this five-year-old filly returned to the racecourse in sparkling from and showed good speed to quicken in this 1m2f race, a distance she hasn’t run over since a three-year-old.

Trainer John Gosden said: “It's been a long preparation and Enable has only started coming to herself the last two weeks. Quite frankly, she's come here at 85 per cent, maybe 90. I was slightly concerned in the last furlong but Frankie looked after her, it was a lovely ride. He always wanted to be where he was, he was keen to sit there and she's an exceptional athlete. To come from an eight-month layoff to win an Eclipse isn't an easy thing. She's done it all herself and the plan is the King George.”

The queen of European racing made history last year in becoming the first horse to win the Gr.1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe and Gr.1 Breeders’ Cup double in the same year.  In total, Enable has now won eight Gr.1 races across four countries, including back-to-back victories in the Gr.1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, the Gr.1 King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes and three Gr.1 Oaks races.

Enable is out of the Juddmonte Farms' Stakes winning mare Concentric, also the dam of Gr.2 Prix de Pomone and Gr.3 Prix Allez France-placed Contribution and Gr.3 Tattersalls Musidora Stakes second Entitle.  Out of the Gr.3 Prix de Royaumont winer Apogee, Concentric is a full-sister to the Gr.2 Prix de Royallieudam winner Dance Routine.  She in turn produced the multiple top-level scorer and champion Flintshire.

Nathaniel is enjoying a great recent run of success, siring his second Classic winner with Channel winning the Gr.1 French Oaks at Chantilly and Dashing Willoughby landing the Gr.2 Queen’s Vase at Royal Ascot.
