Nathaniel's first-crop superstar Enable wins King George

February yearlings in sunlight

Nathaniel’s first-crop superstar Enable wins King George

29/07/2017 Enable winning King George, by Nathaniel

Nathaniel's daughter Enable emphatically won the Gr.1 King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot today.  In doing so, she became the first ever filly to win the Oaks, Irish Oaks & King George Gr.1 triple, gained by a combined 15l. A first-crop Superstar by Nathaniel!

Enable shrugged of her high-class older rivals powering home to comfortably land the King George by four and half lengths.

Trainer John Gosden hailed Enable as "the best filly he has ever trained" and said: "Enable is a wonderful filly. To follow in the likes of Dahlia and Pawneese and even Taghrooda says a lot. She'd have won on good ground. She can handle anything. She has won on Tapeta, good to firm and now soft to loose."

Jockey Frankie Detorri said: "She is a superstar. She's as good as I've ridden, to win the King George by four lengths – she's the real deal and I love her so much. She destroyed them. She is uncomplicated, has a good mind, all the things you want."

All being well she'll now go the Yorkshire Oaks followed by the Arc, and she was cut to around 2-1 for the latter contest.

It was another great result for her owner/breeder Khalid Abdullah of Juddmonte Farms. Enable is a half-sister to the Gr.2 placed Contribution out of the Stakes winning mare Concentric (Sadler's Wells), a full-sister to Gr.2 winner and Gr.1 Prix de Diane runner-up Dance Routine, who is the dam of multiple Gr.1 winner Flintshire.

Enable was following in the footsteps of her father who also won the Gr.1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at three.

The Newsells Park Stud second-season sire, Nathaniel, is enjoying an excellent year with his three-year-olds, with nine first-crop Group/Stakes horses so far.
