Nathaniel’s daughter Enable joins the Greats with Arc victory

01/10/2017 Enable winning the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe

Nathaniel's daughter, Enable, joined 'The Greats' with a scintillating victory in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at Chantilly today for owner/breeder Prince Khalid Abdullah of Juddmonte Farms.

Trained by John Gosden, this dual Classic winner was the first three-year-old filly trained in Britain or Ireland to land the prize, and was never seriously challenged winning under Frankie Dettori by two and a half lengths.

Frankie Dettori said: "She's uncomplicated and has a big heart. I was very confident. C'est magnifique. She's a tremendous filly."

Enable, who had won her previous four Gr.1 starts, by an aggregate of 20 lengths, was positioned prominently from the stalls, and was travelling powerfully as the field prepared to swing for home, then when asked to quicken the response was instant and the race was over.

John Gosden said: "She's very special and has amazing ability. She showed us at home she was in the zone. She was looking well, eating well, still had her summer coat; she enjoys her work. She gave us every sign she was ready to run a race like that."

Juddmonte's racing manager Teddy Grimthorpe said: "She's a champion filly and this is such a great result for the Juddmonte team.  She is the fourth generation bred by Prince Khalid from one of his first horses bred and it is a tribute to him.  We are all very proud of what she has achieved and it is a fifth Arc winner for Prince Khalid, which speaks volumes.  All conditions were favorable and she showed her class to the world.  Her future has yet to be discussed and it will be decided in time whether she stays in training."

Enable is out of the Stakes winning Concentric, also the dam of Gr.2 Prix de Pomone and Gr.3 Prix Allez France-placed Contribution.  Out of the Gr.3 Prix de Royaumont winer Apogee, Concentric is a full-sister to the Gr.2 Prix de Royallieudam winner Dance Routine.  She in turn produced the multiple top-level scorer and champion Flintshire who was a runner-up twice in this race.

In winning this race, Enable promoted the Newsells Park Stud sire Nathaniel to leading European second-crop sire by progeny earnings.  He is also second only to Galileo in lists for the Leading European Sire and Leading European Sire of three-year-olds. Nathaniel has sired 11 Stakes winners/performers in 2017 from his first-crop, with 12% of runners rated RPR 100+.

Congratulations to all connections!
