Mount Nelson yearling realises €320,000 at Arqana

19/08/2013 Mount Nelson ex Ile Deserte

Newsells Park Stud enjoyed another successful Arqana August Yearling Sale in Deauville, with a colt by the stud’s stallion Mount Nelson realising €320,000 (Lot 164).

One of the nicest yearlings Newsells Park had to offer this year, this half-brother to the highly regarded Gr.2 Coventry Stakes placed, St. Barths, was sold to Liam Norris and William Huntingdon.   The colt is by one of Europe’s leading second-crop sires in Mount Nelson, responsible for Group and Stakes winning two-year-olds, Purr Along and Berkshire (Lot 164).

In addition, the stud purchased the dam Ile Deserte for 80,000gns carrying the colt at Tattersalls December Sales in 2011.  This Green Desert mare has a colt foal by Equiano and is in-foal to Nathaniel.

The Norris/Huntingdon partnership also purchased from Newsells a cracking half-brother to February Sun and the Gr.1 placed Best Name from the first crop of Champion Miler Makfi for €120,000 (Lot 150).

Another highlight of the consignment was the Dansili full-sister in blood to 2013 Royal Ascot Gr.2 winner Thomas Chippendale hailing from one of the very best families in the book, who was purchased by R&B International S.R.O. for €230,000 (Lot 187).   Plus France Turf purchased a ‘bred in the purple’ precocious filly by Champion sire Galileo out of a half-sister to the brilliant Champion, Darjina, for €200,000 (Lot 130).

Other lots to reach six figures included a King’s Best half-sister to the dual Stakes placed, Midnight Game from the immediate family of multiple Group winner, Moonlady purchased by Crispin de Moubray SARL for €160,000 (Lot 11); and Clement/Rau went to €100,000 to purchase a Medicean half-brother to Gr.2 Italian Oaks winner, Night of Magic, Stakes winner, Night Serenade and Gr.3 placed, Neele, dam of Gr.1 winner, Nymphea (Lot 22).
