Marvellous Classic win

10/09/2011

The Newsells bred, Masked Marvel, stormed to victory in the Ladbrokes St Leger (Gr.1) at Doncaster today setting a new track record in the process.

Jockey William Buick rode a fine race and the pair were never in danger, sitting midfield then showing an impressive turn of foot to leave the others standing, and galloping on strongly to the point where his rider was struggling to pull him up.

Trainer, John Gosden, was understandably delighted and said:  "He won well at Goodwood and was confused by Epsom. He came back well at the July meeting and then Mr Neilsen allowed me to back off him and give him a nice rest to come here. He's a fresh horse for the autumn so we are in goodshape. We could go and have a look at the Qipco stayers race. He loves good ground."

The success was also a very poignant one for Newsells Park Stud as it would have meant a huge amount to Klaus J Jacobs who founded the stud when he purchased Fares Stables back in 2000, but who sadly passed away three years ago.  He was a wonderful horseman and passionate about Newsells Park Stud.  He loved all the mares, but his favourite was Masked Marvelís dam Waldmark, so how fitting it was that she should produce Newsells Park Stud's first Classic winner.

Newsells is also delighted for all of Masked Marvelís connections, in particular to Mr Nielson and Jeremy Brummitt who put their confidence in Newsells and bought this colt from the stud at the Arqana Yearling Sale in Deauville.

By Montjeu, Masked Marvel was bred, raised and sold by Newsells Park Stud, realising €260,000 as a yearling at the Arqana Deauville Sale in August 2009.

He is out of the Newsells mare Waldmark, who finished second in the Falmouth Stakes (Gr.2) and her half-brother, Waldpark, was this yearís winner of the Deutches Derby (Gr.1) at Hamburg.

Waldmark also has a Monsun two-year-old filly, and a yearling colt by Rock Of Gibraltar to be offered at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 1 by Newsells Park Stud (Lot 412).
