Don't miss the first yearlings by the 'King of Speed', Equiano

February yearlings in sunlight

Don’t miss the first yearlings by the ‘King of Speed’, Equiano

06/08/2013 Equiano

The 'King Of Speed', Equiano, will be represented by his first yearlings at the sales this season.
The best son of leading sire Acclamation with a Timeform Rating of 127, Equiano was rated higher than all his paternal half-brothers at stud including 14lbs higher than champion first-season sire Dark Angel.  Acclamation was also quick to succeed at stud producing 24 individual winners when his first-crop ran in 2007, and he also won the title of champion first-season sire.
Equiano has every chance of following in their footsteps, as a dual Gr.1 winner of the King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot as well as finishing third in the Gr.2 Criterium de Maisons-Laffite as a two-year-old, not to mention a full book of quality mares in his first season at stud.
Four of his first yearlings will be on offer at the Arqana August Yearling Sale in Deauville, including a half-brother to the Stakes winning two-year-old and three-year-old Bahia Breeze consigned by Haras de Fresnay-le-Buffard (Lot 47), and a half-brother to the French Stakes placed two-year-old Humungosaur consigned by Kildaragh Stud (Lot 145).  As well as the first foal out of the multiple Stakes winning dam Laguna Salada (Lot 363) and a filly from the family of the Gr.3 Prix du Calvados winner Purr Along (Lot 318).
At DBS Premier Sales, the sale renowned for precocious two-year-olds, there are 19 yearlings by Equiano.  Newsells Park Stud offers two fillies, one is a cracking filly out of a 96 rated, five-time-winning sprinter, who is a half-sister to dual Gr.1 winning sprinter, Reverence (Lot 5); and the other is a  lovely, balanced filly out of the Eternal Stakes (L) winner, Clifton Dancer (Lot 387).
Heading up the other yearlings by Equiano at the DBS Premier Sales is a half-sister to the 2012 Group winner and performing two-year-old Cay Verde consigned by Catridge Farm Stud (Lot 325), and a half-sister to the multiple Group performing two-year-old Bonnie Charlie consigned by Laundry Cottage Stud Farm (Lot 191).
More siblings to Stakes performers include a half-brother to the Gr.1 placed two-year-old Polar Force consigned by Oaks Farm Stables (Lot 11), and Cooneen Stud offers a half-brother to Red Roof (Lot 30).  Leading consignor Trickledown Stud has four yearlings by Equiano at this sale including a half-brother to Stakes performer Mimisel, out of Milly-M, a daughter of the multiple Group winner Millyant.
Later in the year there will be more Equiano yearlings to watch out for, including a half-brother to 4-time Gr.2 and Gr.3 winner Deacon Blues, and half-sisters to two-year-old Stakes winner Miss Work Of Art, and Charlie Em, winner of the Gr.3 Señorita Stakes.
Be quick or you'll miss them!
