Dashing Willoughby continues good form for Nathaniel

05/07/2020 Nathaniel

Dashing Willoughby continued his good form winning the Gr.3 Coral Henry II Stakes at Sandown today, following his success in the Listed Buckhounds Stakes in June.

Successful in the Gr.2 Queen’s Vase last year, this four-year-old son of Nathaniel was always going best and looks sure to claim more Group races for trainer Andrew Balding and owners Mick and Janice Mariscotti.

It was the second Stakes winner for his sire this week with Alkandora landing the Listed Prix Melisande at Longchamp.

Bred by Meon Valley Stud, Dashing Willoughby was purchased by his trainer for 70,000gns from Tattersalls October Book 1 Sales.  He is out of Miss Dashwood (Dylan Thomas), a winning half-sister to Speedy Boarding (Shamardal), winner of the Gr.1 Prix de l’Opera and Gr.1 Prix Jean Romanet.

On the same card at Sandown, Nathaniel's outstanding daughter 10-time Gr.1 winner Enable made her seasonal debut with a gallant second in the Gr.1 Coral-Eclipse.

Her trainer John Gosden said: "She has run a magnificent race and definitely tired in the last furlong, Frankie was thrilled with her and said her behaviour was all positive - she didn't worry or sweat up before the race. There is a deep sense of relief and it's a nice platform to go for the King George now.  I have been very open with everybody about it - she is an older mare now, not a three-year-old filly and getting to her racing weight has been a little bit of a struggle for her."
