Beautiful Stakes victory for granddaughter of George Washington

20/09/2017 Newsells

It was a delight to see the Newsells Park Stud homebred Beautiful Morning win the Listed EBF Stallions John Musker Fillies' Stakes at Yarmouth today.

Trained by Mrs John Harrington for owner Jon S Kelly, this four-year-old filly readily quickened one furlong out to comfortably land the 1m2f race by two and a half lengths.  She was following up finishing second in the Gr.2 Blandford Stakes at the Curragh on her last outing. She has also won as a two-year-old and was second in a Listed race at Newbury at three.

It was a particularly notable success as Beautiful Morning is out of Date With Destiny, the only foal by George Washington, winner of four Group 1s and who sadly lost his life in the Breeders' Cup Classic after being returned to the track after a failed stallion career.

George Washington is by Danehill, and Beautiful Morning is by Galileo so she is bred on a unique variation of the Galileo-Danehill cross that has delivered numerous top-notchers including Frankel.

Newsells purchased the Stakes placed Date With Destiny at the end of her racing career as a broodmare prospect for 185,000gns, and sold her daughter Beautiful Morning as a yearling for 650,000gns.   Date With Destiny also has a two-year-old filly by Nathaniel named Janabiya, and a yearling by Lope De Vega will be offered by Newsells at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 2.
