A Stakes winner and Group performer for the King of Speed Equiano

14/10/2018 Medicine Jack

It was a successful weekend for Equiano with Medicine Jack wining the Listed Waterford Testimonial Stakes at Navan today and multiple Group winner Belvoir Bay finishing second in a Gr.3 in USA.

Trained by Ger Lyons for owner Sean Jones, Medicine Jack got up in dramatic fashion to win this sprint. His heart is in the right place and he has been a great servant, having won nearly £150,000 in prize money and winning the Gr.2 Railway Stakes as a two-year-old (pictured) as well as finishing third to Caravaggio in the Gr.1 Phoenix Stakes.

Shane Lyons, representing Ger Lyons said: "He wants it a bit softer but it was lovely and safe there. He loved being in the bunch and getting a bit of cover. He never picked the stick up and he ran with great enthusiasm. That will give him a bit of confidence and set him up for next year."

Bred by Downfield Cottage Stud, Medicine Jack is a half-brother to the Stakes winner Agony And Ectasy (Captain Rio) out of the Formidable mare Agony Aunt, who is out of a half-sister to the Gr.1 winner Wind In Her Hair, dam of Deep Impact.  The third dam Burghclere is a Busted sister to Height Of Fashion (Bustino)

Belvoir Bay is also an excellent and consistent servant for her connections and sire Equiano having won seven Group/Stakes races.

Equiano has now sired 24 Group/Stakes winners/performers and is the leading GB sire of sprinters and milers in Europe in 2018 by winners (www.stallionguide.com) with 63 winners so far this year.
