A new Group winner for Equiano

10/09/2017 Equiano

Equiano sired another Group winner today with Lady Macapa landing a game victory in the Gr.3 Qatar Prix du Petit Couvert over 5f at Chantilly.

It was a well deserved win for this four-year-old filly trained by Clive Cox for first time owners Michael Johnson and John Law, having finished third in the Gr.3 bet365 Hackwood Stakes at Newbury on her last start.  She was also Stakes placed as a two-year-old.

Jockey Luke Morris said: "She was happy with the return to five furlongs and it's definitely her best trip.  She also loves soft ground and that surface helped today.  She's very tough and honest.  If the ground were to be quite soft on the day, it'd be worth trying her back here in the Abbaye, but that is not my decision to make so I'll leave that for the trainer."

Bred by Peter Winkworth, Lady Macapa is out of Brazilian Style (Exit To Nowhere) and was purchased for her new owners at the Tattersalls December Sale last year for 88,000gns by Badgers Bloodstock.  Brazilian Style is also currently in-foal to Equiano.

Lady Macapa is the thirteenth Stakes winner for her sire Equiano, whose dual Gr.1 winning son The Tin Man finished third in the Gr.1 32Red Sprint Cup at Haydock on Saturday.  Equiano has also sired over 60 winners already in 2017.
