Mount Nelson

Pedigree, performance, and presence.

These are the key factors we consider very carefully when deciding on the stallions for our broodmares. To assist this process we use both our own expertise and that of top pedigree specialists.

We seek only the best and most suitable sires from around the world for each mare. This has led us to choose from the premier league of proven and new stallions.

In 2009, Newsells Park Stud will be standing the new sire and dual Gr.1 winner Mount Nelson (2004 b.c. by Rock of Gibraltar ex Independence by Selkirk).

Bred by Cliveden Stud, Mount Nelson is by a fantastic racehorse and now a major emerging sire in Rock of Gibraltar (Danehill), out of a wonderful racemare in Independence (Selkirk) who won both the Sun Chariot and Matron Stakes. He is bred on the dynamic Danzig/Sharpen Up cross which has already produced the successful young sires Danehill Dancer and Invincible Spirit.

On the racecourse, Mount Nelson had the precocity to win the Gr.1 Criterium International as a two-year-old. As well as possessing great speed he had the toughness and resilience to come back from a foot injury to win a Gr.1 over 10f at four, when winning the Eclipse Stakes.

As the first major stallion to stand at Newsells Park Stud since its purchase by the Jacobs family in 2000, Mount Nelson represents a significant milestone. Visit www.mount-nelson.com for more information on this exciting new sire.

In addition, we have some shares in stallions. These include exciting young sire prospect, Motivator, and proven Gr.1 sire Dr Fong. Also, Green Tune, winner of the French 2000 Guineas and a Stakes winning sire.

Newsells also owned the Gr.1 Derby Italiano winner Osorio, who sadly died in 2009. He was German bred by Champion sire Surumu, and all his first four dams had won Black-Type. Osorio has some lovely youngsters to fly the flag for him, with his first crop running in 2009.
