Latest News A host of new well bred foals

The stud season at Newsells Park Stud started even busier than usual with over 25% of foals born by early February.  Now with spring in the air the stud has a host of well bred foals on the ground.

These include siblings to Group 1 winners such as a Montjeu half-sister to Spinning Queen out of Our Queen Of Kings, a Galileo filly out of Specifically, the dam of 1000 Guineas heroine Speciosa, and Entente Cordiale foaled a fine colt by Oasis Dream, a half-brother to resident sire Equiano.

Equiano is represented by several foals, notably a cracking filly out of Impressible, who is a half-sister to dual Gr.1 sprinter, Reverence, and a daughter of top class sprint mare, Imperial Bailiwick.   Also the Gr.1 mare and Stakes producer, Fabulously Fast, has a colt foal who will hopefully live up to his dam’s name!

Newsells Park Stud’s other stallion Mount Nelson has his first runners this season and continues to be supported by the stud.  Amongst this year’s crop so far are two fillies related to Stakes winning/performing siblings out of Mosquera and Reading Habit, and another filly out of Waldblume from the family of 2011 Classic winners Waldpark and Masked Marvel.

Several other well bred mares have foals at foot by Champion sires, including a Galileo colt out of Shastye, the half-sister to Sagamix and Sagacity; and the half-sister to Total Gallery, Lady Darshaan, produced a colt by Street Cry.  In addition, the Stakes winning and Gr.1 placed Rave Reviews has a cracking colt by Dubawi.

Two mares with Champion sisters to have foals at Newsells Park Stud this season are Neartica, a winning Sadler’s Wells half-sister to the ‘imperious’ Goldikova, has as an attractive Dalakhani filly; and the full-sister to Quarter Moon and Yesterday, Loveisallyouneed, produced a lovely filly by Dansili.

Newsells has also welcomed siblings to multiple Group winning horses bred by the stud.  On A Soapbox foaled a colt by Invincible Spirit, a half-brother to Soapy Danger, and Strawberry Morn produced a Dansili full-brother to the popular Strawberrydaiquri.

Latest News Masked Marvel rated top stayer

The Newsells Park Stud bred, Masked Marvel, was rated the top European three-year-old stayer in the World Thoroughbred Rankings unveiled in London yesterday.

His trainer John Gosden said:  “He broke the track record at Doncaster in the St Leger but was out of sorts on his last run in the Arc.  He’s a progressive horse who is wintering well and we may try to start him off in the Group 2 Jockey Club Stakes at Newmarket in May.  We’ll then look at Group 1 races like the Grand Prix de Saint Cloud and the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot.”

Rated 121, Masked Marvel, had stormed to victory in the Ladbrokes St Leger (Gr.1) at Doncaster in September.

By Montjeu, Masked Marvel was bred, raised and sold by Newsells Park Stud, realising €260,000 as a yearling at the Arqana Deauville Sale in August 2009.  He is out of the Newsells mare Waldmark, who finished second in the Falmouth Stakes (Gr.2) and her half-brother, Waldpark, won the 2011 Deutches Derby (Gr.1) at Hamburg.

Latest News Stud fees announced for Equiano and Mount Nelson

Newsells Park Stud has announced their stud fees for Equiano and Mount Nelson for next year.

Dual Gr.1 King’s Stand Stakes winner, Equiano will remain at a fee of £8,000, while Mount Nelson will stand for £6,000 in 2012.

Commenting on the stud fees for both horses, Newsells Manager, Julian Dollar said, “Equiano was extremely well received by breeders and fully booked this year.  With the incredible success of Acclamation and his leading first season sire son, Dark Angel, Equiano’s sire line is on fire at the moment and as the fastest and highest rated horse from this sire line, we have seen demand for Equiano’s services increase if anything from last year.

“The Mount Nelson yearlings were a superb bunch of horses and justifiably sold exceptionally well at the sales, bringing in a healthy profit to breeders who supported him.  These yearlings are going to all the best trainers and we are excited about his first runners.

“We remain very grateful to breeders for their support of our stallions, particularly in these difficult economic times.”

As is normal Newsells Park Stud policy, neither stallion will be subject to ‘Grooms fees’ or ‘Walk-in’ fees and both stallions will be registered for the Breeders Cup programme as well as the EBF.
