The Manor of Newsells has been in existence since the time of the Domesday Book, but it was the de Trafford family who established Newsells Park Stud when they bought the property in 1926. Under their ownership until 1972, notable horses such as Parthia (1959 Derby) and Alcide (King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes) were bred on the stud.
The Jacobs family invested in the Stud in July 2000 to expand upon the successful founding of Gestüt Fährhof in Germany by Walther J Jacobs.
Our horses are reared on extensive grassland comprising 1200 acres over rolling hills. The soil’s high calcium content and the excellent climate together encourages a variety of herbage to thrive in our paddocks. A grass analysis and an organic fertilisation programme are in place to ensure the grassland suits all the ages of our bloodstock.
As we aim to have not more than 200 horses, your future champions will always have ample and quality grazing 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year.
"I have no doubt that the old adage of 'range and change' is as valid today as when it was coined by our predecessors. I was taught that the secret of success was lots of acres per horse, and my persuading the late Gerald Leigh and Prince Khalid Abdullah (Juddmonte) of this fact certainly did them no harm."

We have also built state of the art, light and airy barns. Each barn is surrounded by its own paddocks and is situated next to the barn manager’s house to ensure someone is always nearby.
In 2008, a new stallion facility called the Grange Farm Stallion Unit was developed on the west side of the stud. This world class facility caters for all the needs of our stallions as well as 'walking-in' mares, as we seek to offer the best service and facilities for our clients.
We use one of the most advanced veterinary clinics in the world, Rossdale & Partners, while our farrier, Mark Curtis, is renowned in the racing and breeding industry.
